Living and working in Newport Beach, I love to meet local business owners and support my local community. Growing up on Balboa Island, one of my favorite places in the world, I wanted to spotlight, Sugar n’ Spice, which is Balboa Island’s oldest banana stand.
Opened in 1945, it has become a cherished icon for generations, serving frozen bananas and Balboa Bars. Owned currently by Courtney and Will Alovis, they love making everyone who visits happy! A Community Tradition, Sugar n’ Spice isn’t just a sweet spot; it’s a hub for creating lasting memories over generations. People return every year, either on vacation, or celebrating that first date, on family outings, and teens sharing laughs; this banana stand is woven into our community’s story.
Whether a resident or visitor, a trip to Sugar n’ Spice on Marine Avenue is a journey into Balboa Island’s heart.
