Now more than ever, it is important to shop & support local! Last week, my friend Sara & I stopped into Heirloom & did some wreath making & drank champs with the owner. Meet Milena Sefferovich!
Born in Tucson, AZ Milena is the daughter of a commercial contractor & grew up on construction job sites. After studying at ASU & receiving a degree in Interior Architecture, she moved to NYC to pursue design. When she lost her job due to 9/11, she became a nanny while doing photography on the side. Her passion for design & architecture continued & soon became a money-making hobby.
After moving back home, she used her eye for design to curate unique furniture & home decor, built a spray booth in her yard, taught herself to refinish furniture, rewire lights & reupholster. Being a designer, she knew what designers wanted & she needed to get it to them. She had read about the Rosebowl flea market & the crowd of creatives it brought in, so she bought a booth. With her mom & dad along to help haul the trailer, she made her first trip to Pasadena. The market was a success & the curating, refurbishing & hauling continued for 3 years until she decided to make CA her home.
After stumbling upon the space that is now Heirloom, she convinced the landlord that a store selling vintage refurbished goods would bring value to Westcliff & set out to open her shop. With $86 left to her name & the overhead of a design studio & retail store she was determined to make Heirloom work.
After years of empty bank accounts & loads of extra effort, the HRLM brand is blossoming, with client projects from AZ to Barcelona, a growing design team & a shoppable showroom in Newport Beach. Today- Milena envisions a world beyond the boundaries of bland design & cookie-cutter homes. Her sophisticated interior solutions are always original & the décor collection she’s so skillfully created & curated exudes more passion than pretense. She had been featured in many magazines and had homes on the home tour! Cheers!
